Assessing vision and carrying out refraction in children is quite difficultand challenging. The incidence of refractive error in children is on the rise either because of improvement in diagnosing methods and clinical acumen or changes in lifestyle or a combination of both. It is equally important to interpret these findings so as to enable one to diagnose presence of refractive error and amblyopia at the earliest (during preschool itself) and prescribe appropriate spectacles with suitable power, frames and lenses and treat amblyopia. Yet another important aspect is the early detection and treatment of keratoconus in children with high cylindrical powers. More and more parents are apprehensive about defective visual problems in children and it is mandatory to address each one of them ; same will be discussed
