IC284 – GLAUCOMA DRAINAGE DEVICE IMPLANTATION : PRACTICAL TIPS & TRICKS

Dr. George Puthuran [P12219] – Madurai

This course will cover a number of practical issues involved in the implantation of valved (AGV) & non-valved (AADI) aqueous drainage implants with an emphasis on how implantation technique may be adjusted according to the individual situation. After a description of the basic methods of implantation, alternatives will be discussed in the context of specific problems that may be encountered such as shallow anterior chamber, preexisting scleral buckle, the presence of silicone oilemulsification, ICE syndrome, post keratoplasty glaucoma & previous failed drainage device. The relative merits and hazards associated with various alternative methods of placement (anterior chamber, sulcus or pars plana placement) will be discussed. The common (and not so common) complications that may be associated with valved and valveless glaucoma implant surgery will be reviewed, management strategies, including prevention techniques will be discussed
