IC522 – CONQUERING THE MAZE OF PVR

Dr. Guruprasad Ayachit [G03319] – Hubli

As vitreo retinal surgeons we are often ummoxed by cases that seem inoperable and hopeless. PVR is the major concern in almost all of these cases. Recurrent RD with PVR and complex giant tears with crumpled retina are patience testing situations. IOFBs stuck deep can cause severe postoperative PVR. Infective retinitis and endophthalmitis are notorious to cause RD with PVR. The pupil, lens or IOL can pose problems both for assessment and management. Patiently navigating through this maze of PVR, is the only hope to give patients some useful vision. In this mainly video based advanced course, we aim to decode the membranous forces acting in PVR. Pathoanatomy, instrumentation, techniques of dissection and judicious use of retinectomy in the successful management of PVR will be discussed. Attendees will learn from experienced instructors, what patience can achieve, how vision can be salvaged in these seemingly hopeless cases and thus guide patients from darkness to light.
