Purpose: To demonstrate 25 G Pars plana vitrectomy surgery for acquired retinoschisis recorded by smart phone. A 41-year-old female patient presented with sudden onset loss of vision in right eye for past 3 weeks. BCVA in OD was CF1/2M. Fundus examination revealed NSD with large outer layer break (ORB) involving macula. Adjacent supero – temporal quadrant revealed a huge schisis cavity, 3 large and several small inner layer breaks (IRB), metal – beaten appearance of outer layer and a scrolled band of outer retinal tissue. The entire lesion was lifted by a band of fibrovascular tissue running supero – temporally and ending at parsplana. After phacoemulsification, 25 G PPV surgery was done. Three months after the removal of silicone oil, retina was stable with 20/120 BCVA.
Conclusion: This video demonstrates a good quality recording of a complex vitreo – retinal surgery in a rare case of an acquired retinoschisis using smart phone which can substitute for an expensive recording system.
