VT231-Cataract surgeries in choroidal coloboma – our experiences

Background:Coloboma is failure of the embryonic fissure to close results in the typical form of congenital coloboma. Closure defects can involve the iris, ciliary body, lens, retina, choroid, optic nerve and lid.choroidal coloboma many times associated with retinal detachment.so in this cases cataract extraction can be difficult and assistance of retinal surgeon is needed.

Method:Presenting here, the videos of cataract surgery in patients with bilateral microphthalmos, microcornea, iris and choroidal coloboma and RD with cataractous changes in one eye.RD was diagnosed using ultrasonography. Patients underwent an uneventful cataract surgery with good visual outcome in most.Retinal detachment was taken care of by retinal surgeon.

Conclusion: coloboma with RD can be very challenging while doing cataract extraction and it has to be tackled very carefully to provide good visual outcome to the patient.
