Aim: To describe surgical technique of SLET from cadaveric graft in cases of bilateral limbal stem cell deficiency Case: A 63yr old female presented with keratinization of cornea with superficial vascularization in all quadrants in both eyes. In left eye, SLET was planned using cadaveric limbal cell graft tissue.
Method: The recipient ocular surface was prepared by 360º peritomy with separation of fibrovascular pannus. A 2 × 2 mm strip of donor limbal tissue was obtained from the cadaveric corneo-scleral button and divided into small pieces which were placed over the amniotic membrane. A bandage contact lens was placed at the end. Results: After surgery, a completely epithelialised, avascular and stable corneal surface was seen by 6 weeks with no complications.
Conclusion : Simple limbal epithelial transplantation using cadaveric donor graft promises to be an easy and effective technique for treating bilateral limbal stem cell deficiency where autologous donor tissue is not available for transplant.
