Aim:To show challenges during paediatric keratoplasty in small child
Methods: Limbal ring sutured to prevent collapse of globe. Dispersive viscoelastic injected into anterior chamber before trephination to prevent sudden decompression and damage to iris and lens.Hyperventilation during final stage of trephination prevents chances of lens extrusion and even suprachoroidal haemorrhage. only interrupted suture applied because chances of loosening of suture because faster healing.
Discussion: Paediatric keratoplasty is challenging but gives gratifying result if intraoperative precautions are taken. Early intervention is necessary to prevent development of intractable amblyopia. Only interrupted suture should be applied in paediatric age group. Number of interrupted suture should also be more compared to adult age group as chances of loosening of suture is more in paediatric age group.
