Aim: To demonstrate the efficacy of amniotic membrane graft in various ocular surface disorders.

Methods: We have used amniotic membrane graft in primary and recurrent pterygium, corneal ulcers , chemical burns and fornix reconstruction post symblepharonectomy . Everytime fresh amniotic membrane was used.

Results: We found that this mode of treatment was comparable to the other modalities with less complications. Various disorders of ocular surface, like persistent epithelial defects of cornea, chemical burns or conjunctival scarring pose a challenge in ophthalmic surgery. Here the Amniotic Membrane has proved as a basement membrane substitute.

Conclusion: Amniotic membrane transplant provided symptomatic relief, reduced inflammation, recurrence, and corneal haze; improved epithelization, stromal healing and visual acuity; and should be considered before keratoplasty
