IC260 – TARGETING EMMETROPIA

Dr. Ranjan Dutta [D14131] – New Delhi

In this era of cataract refractive surgery, premium IOLs and newer platforms, such as femtosecond laser assisted cataract surgery, patients’ expectations are naturally high and the surgeon is under tremendous pressure to deliver the desired visual outcome. This IC will be focused on the need to calculate the appropriate IOL power in various cataract situations, including premium IOLs (Toric & Multifocal), post-refractive surgery, pediatric situations, silicone oil-filled eyes and secondary implants. Special emphasis will be on how to perform perfect keratometry and biometry as well as advances in optical biometry. The course will include the novel concept of dynamic IOL optimization which aims to improve the predictability of IOL power calculation.
The course will also include a presentation on how best to deal with refractive surprise after cataract surgery. The session will be concluded with an interactive discussion amongst the panelists and the audience, about the various IOL power calculation challenges encountered in practice.
