Dr. Raj Vardhan Azad [A02248] – New Delhi
In the present era of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV), with improved instrumentation the success rates of vitreous surgery have increased dramatically; and PPV is replacing buckling surgery. The art of doing a good scleral buckle is diminishing, and learning how to find a retinal break is denitely on the wane. In selected cases, scleral buckling has shown superior results to PPV; and buckling surgery is more cost effective also. In this course, controversial use of scleral explants in certain retinal conditions like retained intraocular foreign body and pediatric retinal detachment will also be discussed, Rather than didactic lectures, the sessions would stress on interaction based learning.
