VT45 – Systematic debridment on the case of ocular injury

Aim: A full thickness injury is a true ocular emergency and when combined with a ruptured globe, immediate medical intervention is required to prevent permanent vision loss.

Method: In this video series we will be showing the various tissue incarcerations in the lacerated corneal, limbal or scleral wound especially when the extent of wound injury is extensive. Post injury; inflammatory reaction & reaction leading to slough, membrane and other reactionary tissue adhesions occurs. Debridement of such a tissue is most important step while dealing & managing such cases.

Result: This video presentation will show the techniques of debridement at various layer & the next step of wound after that. Post-surgical management with contact lenses will further improve visual prognosis and function.

CONCLUSIONS: A ruptured globe is a devastation. Immediate surgical management is repair of wound. Debriding the wound before the final repair is an important step of managing these cases.
