IC111 – RETINOBLASTOMA: MISSION POSSIBLE

Dr. Bhavna Chawla [C08835] – New Delhi

India has the largest number of Retinoblastoma (RB) cases in the world. Although a potentially fatal cancer, management of RB has witnessed major advances in recent times, with an increasing trend towards globe salvage & vision preservation. Newer local routes of drug delivery like intra-arterial & intra-vitreal chemotherapy have shown success. Enucleation serves as a life-saving intervention in advanced cases & the importance of post-operative adjuvant therapy has been recognized. In orbital RB, a multi-modal treatment approach has improved survival outcomes. Genetic testing & counselling is emerging as an important aspect of management. This IC aims to provide a comprehensive overview of recent advances in RB. Difficult & challenging case scenarios will be highlighted & audience interaction will be encouraged. At the end of the course, the participants will become familiar with newer therapeutic modalities for RB and will be able to takemanagement-related decisions with confidence.
