VT189 – Tissue Adhesive with Bandage Contact Lens: “Hail the Saviour

Dr.ABHISHEK HOSHING,Dr.Nadisha Puri

Cyanoacrylate Tissue Adhesive (TA) with Bandage Contact Lens (BCL) has become a cornerstone in treating severe corneal thinning and perforations ≤2.5 mm in size. High efficacy & ease of application makes it an indispensible tool in the corneal surgeon’s basket. It can be used as a definitive treatment or an interim procedure to delay an otherwise emergent surgical repair. In our video we demonstrate various scenarios viz. corneal thinning, descemetocele & perforation with shallow anterior chamber (AC), where TA-BCL was successfully used. As shown, it can be applied on slit lamp in OPD or in operation theatre depending on the need for AC reformation. The principles include de-epithelising the surrounding cornea for better adherence; covering the thinning/perforation with the smallest amount of evenly spread TA & applying a BCL over it. AC reformation is done with air/balanced salt solution as needed. The TA spontaneously falls off after re-epithelization of the underlying cornea.
