Aim: To demonstrate the effectiveness of minimally invasive procedures in strabismus surgery (MISS) in a tertiary tribal health care centre.
Materials and methods: All the cases operated for horizontal and oblique muscles. They are recessed or resected with 6-0 vicryl suture through any of the fornix incisions. Full muscle width transposition is also done, as per pattern through the same incision. All the conjunctival incisions are left unsutured. All the patients were seen after 8-12 hrs for discomfort, tenon exposure and diffuse hemorrhage. Then were seen at first, second and sixth week for scarring and wound gape.
Result: MISS is less traumatic with minimal irritation as sutures not required. Conjunctiva with its vasculature is preserved if further required for glaucoma surgery.
Conclusion: MISS should be the procedure of choice in a tertiary tribal care centre.
