FP1406: Lamellar Dissection Versus Avulsion Technique for Pterygium Excision: Scheimpflug Based Comparison

Dr. Nagendra Shekhawat, N05395, Dr. Sonal Kalia, Dr. Karishma Goyal

PURPOSE-To compare scheimpflug based parameters between 2 techniques of pterygium excision which are lamellar dissection and avulsion method

METHOD- This prospective study includes 50 eyes in each group. Dimensions of pterygium was measured. Scheimpflug imaging was used to calculate wavefront aberrations before & 3 month after surgery. Pterygium excision was done by lamellar dissection or avulsion method.

RESULTS- change in astigmatism & higher order aberration was found significant in both groups (p=0.0000). Significant correlation of change in astigmatism or higher order aberration & size of pterygium was noted. There was no correlation between method of surgery and change in astigmatism or wavefront aberration

CONCLUSION- visual performance improved after pterygium surgery due to decrease in wavefront aberration (lower & higher order). In our study, method of pterygium surgery does not have a significant effect on change in wavefront aberration
