INTRODUCTION: Dengue fever is a viral disease epidemic.Mechanisms for ocular manifestations are multifactorial like direct viral infection , humoral and cell mediated immune response and viral determinants.
CASE REPORT 13 yr old boy presented with fever, headache, body ache, skin rash, painful loss of vision of left eye,watering, photophobia. Dengue serology was positive with leucocytosis and thrombocytopenia
On Examination no perception of light in left eye,lid edema , circumciliary congestion,cloudy cornea with central thinning,AC exudates and no fundal glow
Right Eye normal
Management: IV methyl prednisolone,vancomycin,ceftriaxone, topical
prednisolone,moxifloxacin and atropine eye ointment
Conclusion: the child recovered with visual loss .Ocular manifestations in
dengue are rare but can be serious as endophthalmitis.So ophthalmic
examination in dengue fever is mandatory.Prognosis ranges from full
spontaneous resolution to blindness despite therapy
