FP1146 : Tacrolimus 0. 1% Eye Ointment As A Sole Therapy in the Treatment of Vernal Kerato Conjunctivitis

Background / Objective :The objective of the study was to assess the efficacy of Tacrolimus 0.1% eye ointment for vernal kerato conjunctivitis in comparision to Loteprednol.

Methods :This prospective study involved enrollement of 100 cases of Vernal kerato conjunctivitis randomly either in to a group that receive Loteprednol 0.5% or Tacrolimus 0.1% apart from anti allergy medications and lubricants.
Each patient was followed at an interval of 2 weeks post randomization and was objectively assessed for both symptomatic relief reduction of clinical signs of allergy.

Results :52 cases were enrolled in the Tacrolimus group and 48 cases were enrolled in Loteprednol group.
Symptomatic relief and reduction in clinical signs of allergy were comparable in both the groups and both the drugs were equally efficaseous.

Conclusion :Tacrolimus 0.1% eye ointment may be used as safe and viable alternative to steroids like Loteprednol in the management of vkc
