FP1248 : Augmented Buckle Handle Technique for Eyelid Reconstruction Following Eyelid Tumour Excision

Dr. Bhawna Piplani, P13855, Dr. Ashok Kumar Khurana

Eyelid tumour excision needs full thickness tumour removal with adequate margins to achieve tumour free edges. This may result in a large surgically induced lid coloboma in either upper or lower lid. Aims of lid reconstruction include adequate aesthetics and sufficient lid mobility, to provide for corneal protection. Traditional eyelid sharing procedures alone may not be able to cover up for the deficiency induced. Several modifications of the traditional techniques have already been described to tide over such situations. We describe our surgical modification which consists of combining Cutler Beard and reverse Cutler Beard with cheek sliding flap , temporal sliding flap , cheek rotation flap and free skin graft. We call it The Bucket Handle Technique owing to the immediate post operative appearance of the reconstructed area. The technique has been utilized successfully for both upper and lower lid reconstruction with adequate lid cosmesis and function in the post operative period.
