Objective / Purpose:
To report a case of total ophthalmoplegia caused due to Herpes zoster
Materials / Patients and Methods:A patient presented to our O.P.D with chief complaints of blurred vision with double vision for 15days.His visual aquity, refraction, IOP, slitlamp examination, orthoptic workup,fundus examination was done.
Results:The patient had a total ophthalmoplegia in right eye with VA CF 1M NI,dilated non reacting pupil along with anterior uveitis. He had associated ptosis in right eye with healing lesions of HZO on right side of scalp and face. The patient was started on antiviral and steroids but the ophthalmoplegia improved a little with VA of 3/60 at 6 months follow-up.
Conclusion:Although reported earlier,but still it is a rare presentation and needs to be kept in mind in patients of HZO. These patients may develop ophthalmoplegia along with or after the development of skin lesions & can be treated with antivirals & steroids.
