FP1455 : Inverse Flap Technique of Ilm Peeling for Large Macular Holes

Dr. Ankita Agarwal, A17607, Dr. Ashok Nataraj

Large idiopathic macular holes have high rates of surgical failure.Ilm peeling has been the standard treatment of choice for all macular holes. Inverse flap technique of internal limiting membrane (ilm) peeling is a newer modification of the old technique where the ilm is rolled into the macular hole. This technique is used in large macular holes where the standard ilm peeling technique might not be as effective.

ln this study we compared 25 eyes of patients undergoing standard ilm peeling with 25 eyes undergoing inverse flap technique for large macular holes(>600um).We found that inverse flap technique resulted in better anatomical closure & visual outcome. It appears the inverse flap technique is a better surgery for large macular holes. Inverse flap technique could be considered as an excellent alternative to standard ilm peeling for large macular holes.
