Purpose – To study the UCVA(uncorrected visual acuity) on 4th day, 1st month & 3rd month or at last visit post PRK(photorefractive keratectomy)
Methods – 112 eyes of 61 cases with minimum 3 months follow up post PRK studied retrospectively. Epithelium removal was done with 20% alcohol in every case. MMC (.04%)was used ≥1 – 1.5D for 30 seconds, 1.5 – 2 D for 60 seconds,2 -4 D for 90 second
Results – Average pre op UCVA 0.51±0.25, on 4th day UCVA was 0.13±0.17 (60 eyes achieve 6/6, 53.5%), 1 month UCVA was 0.05±0.13(91 eyes achieve 6/6,81.3%), 3months or last visit UCVA was 0.03±0.08(97 eyes achieve 6/6,86.6%). Significant difference was noted between average UCVA on 4th day and 1st month, but no significant difference seen between average UCVA between 1st month & 3month or last visit.
Conclusion – Most of the patients achieve 6/6 within 1 month but one should wait for 3 months before further intervention.
