FP189 : Clinical Evaluation of Chronic Dry Eye in Photorefractive Keratectomy & Laser In-Situ Keratomeleusis

Dr. Ashok Garg, A03633

Aim of the study is to evaluate dry eye symptoms after PRK & LASIK & ascertain incidence & predictive factors of chronic dry eye.In this randomized prospective study 90 patients were included & received treatment of PRK & LASIK randomly.Dry eye symptoms were recorded pre and post op in all cases.Dry eye manifestations, incidence & predictive factors of chronic dry eye were major outcome measures.Mean age of the study patients was 26+/-3.4 years with myopia or myopic astigmatism(Sph equi -4.23+/-1.8 D) having PRK or LASIK.Schirmer score, corneal sensitivity,OSS,SRI significantly changed in PRK. Similarly,in LASIK patients tear BUT,corneal sensitivity & OSS also changed significantly. 12 months post op 6% of PRK & 0.6% of LASIK patients developed chronic dry eye.Chronic dry eye was not so common in PRK & LASIK.Ocular surface & tear film features during pre op phase might help to foresee chronic dry eye development in PRK & LASIK.
