Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of IOL power calculation formulas in long and short axial length patients in relation to anterior chamber depth ACD.
Methods: Hundred patients (50 long axial length with > 24.0 mm and 50 short axial length < 22.0 mm) were evaluated pre-operatievly before SICS cataract extraction in relation to anterior chamber depth with Haigis, SRK T, Holladay I and SRK II formulas.
Results: The SRK II formula can predict accurately IOL power with least mean absolute error in patients with ACD less than 3 mm with less error and is preferred over other formulas. The Haigis formula is the preferred choice in patients with a ACD longer than 3.5 mm in both long and short axial length eyes.
Conclusion: Our studies shows efficacy of various IOL power calculation with respect to short and long axial length which is similar to results of other studies but were carried out in normal axial lengths eyes. Thus during calculating power it is necessary to take into consider ACD.
