A survey conducted by ARC-AIOS of young ophthalmologists (those with 2-10 years post-residency experience) to get feedback of their residency training. Of the 1005 respondents, 526/1005 fulfilled inclusion criteria. Average age was 32.6years (SD 4). On a scale of 0-10, clinical skills teaching was graded as: slit lamp examination (7.2, SD 2.8), indirect ophthalmoscopy (6.2, SD 3.3), gonioscopy (5.7, SD 3.4), perimetry (6.2, SD 3.2), OCT (4.6, SD 4) & orthoptic evaluation (4.3, SD 3.1). The medium of surgeries performed independently was: ICCE 0, FCCE 18, SICS 55, phaco 1, pterysium excision 15, DCT 4, DCR 2, chalazion 30 and none for trabeculetomies, strabismus correction, LASIK, Keratoplasty & Vitrectomy. Observed & assisted surgeries were more common. Seminars (3/4) & case presentations were (3/4) rated higher than diabetic lectures (22/4) & journal clubs (2.2/4), with lab (1.1/4.). There was a huge variation in the teaching and surgical exposure of the residency programs.
