Surgical options available for correction of aphakia are AC-IOL, SF-IOL or iris clip lens. Iris-clip IOL is fixated to the posterior surface of the iris. This technique offers several advantages: it offers considerable cosmetic benefit, by hiding the IOL haptic and parts of the lens behind the iris, it enhances stability, prevents tilting of the lens and reduces the glare phenomenon, which is characteristic of the lens being implanted in the anterior chamber. Iris clip IOL is indicated mainly in Pre-op zonular dialysis, Traumatic dislocation of crystalline lens, Large zonular dialysis during surgery, Large posterior capsular rent, and as a secondary procedure in aphakia. Few conditions were it is contraindicated is Iris atrophy, Pseudoexfoliation, Large iridectomy and Uveitis. Videos here demonstrate use of iris clip for aphakia. Secondary iris clip intraocular lens implantation is clinically safe and effective to correct aphakia in eyes without capsular support.
