FP1385 : Clinical Presentation, Management & Visual Outcomes in Siderosis Bulbi : A Retrospective Case Series

Dr. Eknath Pawar, Dr. Diva Kant Misra

PURPOSE- To report the clinical profile and outcomes of lensectomy with anterior vitrectomy in a series of children with ectopia lentis

METHODS- Records of 14 eyes of 8 children operated for ectopia lentis with minimum 3 months follow-up were retrospectively analyzed. Systemic and ocular features were documented. All eyes underwent lensectomy with anterior vitrectomy with limbal approach in 12 eyes and pars-plana approach in 2 eyes.

RESULTS- Of the 8 children, 3 children had Marfan’s disease, 2 had microspherophakia, 1 had homocysteinuria, 2 were idiopathic. All children were left aphakic followed by rehabilitation with glasses alone. Preoperative best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) ranged from 20/1200 to 20/300 and postoperative BCVA ranged from 20/150 to 20/30.

CONCLUSION- Ectopia lentis in children can be managed well with lensectomy and anterior vitrectomy. Post-operative rehabilitation with spectacles and amblyopia therapy can help achieve a good visual outcome.
