AIM:To compare the final visual outcome of secondary intraocular implantation with primary surgery.
Methods:We retrospectively studied secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation in 904 aphakic eyes from 2003 to 2015.We studied the primary surgery which lead to aphakia i.e. Phacoemulsification, SICS, ECCE & others fromthe database of the hospital EMR.Thepre &postoperative visual acuity (VA) & other details were recorded. Minimum follow up was 3 months. The data was analysed using SPSS 22.Result: Of all 904 cases of Aphakia, Phacoemulsification 203(22.5%), SICS done in 636(69.2%) & in 55(6%) the surgery was unknown as it was done elsewhere. The final visual outcome was >6/18 in 494(55%) of the cases. When statistically analysed the final visual outcome was not significant P<0.02.
Conclusion:The final visual outcome after the type of primary surgery leading to aphakia is not statistically related.
