The course attempts to highlight the dilemmas and the difficulties in decision-making, faced by a surgeon in the unplanned setting of acute trauma involving the posterior segment.

Managing posterior segment trauma is always challenging and the prognosis may be unpredictable.

Trauma to ocular and extra ocular structures can lead to a wide spectrum of tissue involvement ranging from supercial to deep and vision threatening lesions. A systematic approach in diagnosing and categorizing the ocular trauma into closed or open globe injuries and its sub classication has created a standardization in ocular trauma management.

Ocular trauma is one of the major cause of blindness in the country. These conditions are sight threatening and require emergent recognition and treatment to preserve vision.
